• Counselling is a supportive space to explore problems you are facing in life. When you are lying awake worrying about something or finding yourself getting anxious and it is affecting your life, counselling offers a place to explore the causes to your pain and difficulties. Counselling allows you to find solutions and strategies for making the most of your life. Counselling allows you to be the best version of you!

  • Some people can think Counselling is ‘just’ talking and that it is the same as chatting to a friend. Counselling is so much more- it provides a safe, confidential environment to really process feelings and understand on a deeper level with the help of an experienced Counsellor. You may feel stuck, like a particular feeling is never going to change, or you might be confused about why you feel the way you do. Choosing Counselling gives you the time and space to learn about yourself more deeply.

  • There can be a misconception that a specific event or trauma has to have happened for someone to start counselling. While it is true that people can come to counselling for a specific thing, such as a bereavement, relationship breakdown, anxiety, depression etc, counselling can help anyone with any problem. Counselling is a journey and exploration of yourself, for anyone who wants to better themselves and live a happier life.

  • The Be You Team work in a client-led way. This means that we work with whatever the client brings to the session. Depending on the type of session you have chosen (Face-to-face, online, etc.), there is always talking and the focus of this is decided by you, but the style of the session may vary. Face-to-face can also involve the use of drawing, writing, sand tray work but only if the client wants to. We will provide guidance, but you are the expert on you, so you take the lead on choosing what you want to work on and how.

  • Counselling for young people still involves providing a safe space for talk therapy to take place, but there is also a lot more creativity and play based strategies used.

Just like adults, the sessions are tailored to the individual, so they may be all talking, or they may involve lots of sand tray, painting, playdoh, drawing etc. It depends on the young person and what they prefer.

  • This is a common worry for parents and caregivers, as they are desperate to support the young people in their life.

Confidentiality applies the same as adult sessions, where information is shared when there is a risk to self or others, but the general content is not shared.

However, strategies and support are shared with parents regularly and this is agreed with the young person.

Links are sometimes made with schools too, where this would be helpful.
